kualalumpurKuala Lumpur, October 2009 – The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) was the recipient of the ‘Prominent Company’ Award at the inaugural Malaysia Independence Award 1957 for its role in contributing towards building the country’s reputation as a preferred destination for meetings, conferences, exhibitions and events.

The prestigious Malaysia Independence Award 1957 is organised by the Selangor Petaling Business & Industry Association, one of the earliest and most active non-profit business organisations in Malaysia. The award recognises the contribution and achievement of Malaysian companies in nation building and the Centre is the only organisation from the hospitality industry amongst the 20 award recipients.

“It is a great honour for the Centre to receive this award in recognition of its contribution to the growth of the business tourism industry in Malaysia, as we endeavour to promote Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and the Centre in the global conventions and exhibitions arena,” said Mr Peter Brokenshire, General Manager of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Mr Brokenshire also attributed the success of the Centre to the support of its partners in Team Malaysia; Tourism Malaysia, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), Malaysia Airlines, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL). This cohesive alliance of key tourism industry players lends credibility to the successful execution of internationally-led events and peace of mind for event organisers based outside Malaysia.

“By working together, we have been able to demonstrate that all bids for international events showcase Malaysian hospitality, quality, efficient service delivery and cultural exposure in the genuine spirit of Malaysia Boleh (‘can do’ spirit)!” said Mr Brokenshire.
