Kuching, Sarawak is hosting the 4th Global Summit on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel from 1st to 5th December 2009. The five-day event is expected to generate over RM850,000.00 for the local hospitality and tourism sector and will see the gathering of some 250 national and international participants.
The event, jointly organised by Century Foundation, India and the Universiti Teknologi MARA, Sarawak, is set to provide a forum for the research scientists, traditional health practitioners, academicians, representatives from the medical and pharmaceutical industries, conservation biologists, biochemists, NGOs, Government agencies, etc. to discuss and share ideas as well as experiences for future collaboration in the promotion and development of the medicinal and aromatic plant industries.
The Summit is a result of the collaborative efforts of Century Foundation, India and the Universiti Teknologi MARA and was brought here with the support of the Sarawak Convention Bureau.
Dr. V. Sivaram, Executive Secretary, Century Foundation said “We are very happy to be able to work with the Universiti Teknologi MARA, Sarawak in organising this forum. I am thankful with the support provided by the Sarawak Convention Bureau and I hope that the Summit will be a successful event and make a difference to the industry as traditional medicine is, at the present time, accepted as an alternative for or used in conjunction with the western medical practice in many countries.”
Meanwhile, Mrs Jill Henry, CEO of the Sarawak Convention Bureau added “I am sure that the delegates will have a successful and memorable stay discovering our huge varieties of herbs and plants may with medicinal properties.”
