The Vienna Convention Bureau chalked up its 40th anniversary this year, and chose to celebrate this occasion with – amongst others – a longstanding partner of particular importance to its success. It therefore invited MCI, the world’s largest agency in the congress and corporate convention sector, to hold its 2009 annual general meeting in Vienna, and also acted as a sponsor of this event. Over 500 representatives from MCI offi ces from all over the globe travelled to Vienna for this occasion in Vienna this December.
The Vienna Convention Bureau has been collaborating with MCI for over 20 years now. The organization’s annual general meeting at the Hilton Vienna Hotel this year was attended by 500 delegates, who analyzed their agency’s performance of the past 12 months and defi ned their objectives for the year 2010. This was also
an opportunity for delegates to receive a comprehensive overview of the spectrum of services offered by the destination Vienna in the meeting and convention sector. During the course of a gala evening at the Imperial Palace, Hofburg Vienna, they enthused about the city‘s imperial splendor, and were equally surprised by the truly cool image of Vienna at the closing party at the impressive Semper Depot. In addition to the Vienna Convention Bureau, other sponsors included Hofburg Vienna, Austrian Airlines, the Hotel InterContinental, the Austria Center Vienna and Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center.
On this occasion Christian Mutschlechner, Director of the Vienna Convention Bureau, extended a warm welcome to MCI owner Roger Tondeur and his wife Ursula Wigert, who had travelled to Vienna with their son Sébastien Tondeur. “We are proud and happy that the Vi-enna Convention Bureau has been able to concludeits anniversary year with the MCI convention,“ Christian Mutschlechner explained. “MCI has been our partner for more than half of our 40-year existence, and has made a signifi cant contribution to Vienna’s success as a meeting destination. I am convinced that, with this partnership, we shall be able to ensure that Vienna continuesto occupy a top ranking amongst the world’s congress metropolises.“ Roger Tondeur said of the event: “Vienna has impressed us not only with its cordiality and hospitality, but also with the professionalism displayed by all the partners we have worked with. It is no surprise, therefore, that Vienna is such a successful destination in our business!”
