Culture on the doorstep of Paris

There are numerous cultural venues on the outskirts of Paris: museums, galleries, theatres, dance centres … A wide choice that is easily accessible. And there are lots of ways to get there: metro, Vélib’, tramway, RER, etc.! With the majority located in green settings, you can combine a cultural visit with a walk close to nature. This non-exhaustive list introduces a few of the most significant.
Culture to the east of Paris
Things are happening in the east of the capital! On the edge of Paris, there are cultural venues devoted to the
visual arts: painting, photography, sculpture, etc. Something to suit all tastes in contemporary art!
La Ferme du Buisson’s contemporary art centre, located in Noisiel, is a multidisciplinary space for contemporary
creation and young artists. In addition to exhibitions, you can also attend concerts, theatre plays and cinema
and its park offers a very pleasant setting for picnics in the great outdoors. Dedicated entirely to contemporary
photography, the Centre photographique d’Île-de-France, located in Pontault-Combault, regularly hosts exhibitions
where the public can discover both new and more experienced photographers. The centre also offers photography
training sessions for enthusiasts and once a year invites a great international photographer to be artist in residence.
Established in a late 19th-century villa, situated in the centre of Noisy-le-Sec, the contemporary art center
La Galerie offers visitors a programme of five exhibitions per year, meetings with artists and guided visits on the
art of today. Another significant cultural venue at the east of Paris, the Centre d’art contemporain de Brétigny is
a place for contemporary creation. It shows a permanent collection of works specially created for the centre and
temporary exhibitions featuring young contemporary artists. A great way for the public to discover the artistic
practices of today.
