The designers of the Russian pavilion at the World Expo 2010 to take place in Shanghai involved children in the creation of the exposition. They held the contest for the best picture of the “City of the Future” among the students of art schools and art studios. Ten works by the winners will be used in the decorations of the pavilion interiors.

The 11-years old Maria Kuzina, a student of Penza design school “Sinyaya Ptitsa” (Bluebird) is still recovering from the unexpected victory.

“It all came out of the blue – both the elation and the excitement. I hadn’t seen the picture until about the very last day when I found out we would be presenting it in Moscow,” shares the winner’s mother with RIA Novosti.

According to Masha Kuzina, the city of the future is a colorful world full of music with no featureless buildings and car engine noise. Its houses span wings like dragonflies and send echoes of cheerful songs along the streets. At the same time the student believes that the City of the Future will be no place for robots.

“Robots are lifeless and dull companions unlike people who can understand you and become your friends. That is why I don’t want robots in my city,” admits the young artist.

The grand prize awaiting Masha Kuzina and 9 other finalists of the contests is the five-day trip to the Shanghai exposition.

EXPO 2010 will take place in China from May 1 through October 31 under the motto “Better City, Better Life”. The event will be participated by 200 countries to present their latest achievements in the field of urban welfare.
