To support the Swiss Olympic team in Vancouver, the leading Swiss telecommunications provider Swisscom implemented a measure particularly targeting an audience with a high affinity for the internet. VOK DAMS.Consulting and Adcom Group were responsible for the strategy and production of the promotion measure. The flash mob at the main train station in Zurich aimed to highlight the brand value of being Swiss and to ensure Swisscom’s attractiveness particularly among the younger target group.
Only a few hours before the Opening Ceremony in Vancouver, hundreds of people at the main train station in Zurich discovered the Olympic spirit for themselves: Suddenly and unexpected, people appear from nowhere and begin to cheer on passers-by and travelers. More and more people join in and transform the train station into an Olympic arena abundant with emotional and heart-warming scenes. After couples, employees of the Swiss railway and other random passers-by have enjoyed their 5-minute fame; the crowd suddenly disperses – to reappear at another place.
The event’s videos have been distributed widely on video platforms like YouTube, blogs and other social networking sites, promoting a website with a virtual fanlog in which people can record their wishes and cheers for the Swiss athletes. A perfect example of how to combine event and Web X.0 solutions for the purpose of brand communication.
