Inspiring people to make a real difference to their lives and the lives of others in the wider community

The Pickle Project is the latest team event from creative learning and development specialists, Altyerre.

The Pickle Project is about giving people the chance to experience new cultures, visit new places, to meet local people and to create a food brand, a pickle, to sell on for the benefit of others.
Its aims are to:
Inspire people:    visit unusual places for a cultural immersion
Broaden the mind:   meet interesting people and see the world through their eyes
Make a real difference:   a unique activity that’s great fun, builds teams and has a real purpose

The one day event includes an urban tour of the area, a highly engaging interactive Bengali banquet introducing the distinctive flavours of Bangladeshi cooking, unique behind-the-scenes access to a professional restaurant kitchen and a series of hands-on workshops all with local experts. The attendees choose their own pickle recipe, buy the ingredients locally, develop the brand and design the label, prepare the sales plan and manufacture a sample batch. Their chosen recipe then goes into full production which they then sell on to raise money.

The first project is on Brick Lane, East London. Matthew Pegler, Altyerre’s Founder comments “Brick Lane is a vibrant place that makes an impact on all the senses. The area is incredibly rich in history, at the cutting edge of all sorts of industries (fashion, food, media etc) and provides a great opportunity to discover people and places which others don’t normally meet or see. There couldn’t be a better place from which to launch this exciting event.”  He adds “We have worked incredibly hard to get right to the heart of different communities, to unearth some extraordinary venues and to build a network of leading local experts so that this event brings the area to life in a unique way that captures the real essence of this part of London.

The Pickle Project, trialled in December 2009 and launched in February 2010, has already been a huge success. The latest client to get involved, a European Innovations Team from Unilever said “Overall an incredible experience. Found it truly original. I’ve taken far more away from it than from other events we’ve had as a team – definitely inspiring.”

In addition to working with corporate groups Altyerre’s bigger ambition is to take the project into schools and colleges and they need to involve as many companies and teams as possible to make this happen.
