VisitBrighton has netted four conference wins during April delivering an estimated total economic benefit of just over £3.3 million to the city.
The wins include the British Nuclear Medicine Society Annual Spring Conference (7 -11 May 2011 and returning on 20 – 25 April 2013), British Arts Festival Association Annual Conference (3 – 5 November 2010) and the 4th Children’s HIV Association of the UK and Ireland Annual Conference and Exhibition (27 – 28 May 2010).
Darren Johnson, Convention Bureau Sales Manager, VisitBrighton explains: “Theses wins underline the city’s growing popularity as the destination of choice for the medical.”
“This can be partially attributed to the city’s University of Sussex which since 2008, has been recognised as a leading medical research university, with over 90% of its research activity rated as internationally recognised. In addition, the university has a long standing history of world-renowned guest lectures spanning the entire breadth of medicine in regular attendance. This coupled with the opening of the city’s Royal Sussex County Hospital in 2007, which has quickly become recognised for its progressive and innovative paediatric care, has all helped to position the city as a centre of medical excellence.”
Johnson concludes: “The first quarter of 2010 has started positively for Brighton & Hove, with the successful launch of our photographic viral initiative, ‘See Brighton through Business Eyes’ as well as over £9 million worth of city-wide investment pledged across our business portfolio. These wins are just another great endorsement of the city’s business tourism product.”
