The third smallest state in Europe will welcome guests in the picturesque medieval capital perched on Mount Titano for an open-air evening packed with surprises and entertainment, organised by San Marino Convention & Visitors Bureau.

San Marino lies in the Rimini hinterland just 20 kilometres from the city, and covers an area of 60 square kilometres set between the green of the Apennine Mountains and the blue of the Adriatic coast. Europe’s oldest republic has now been chosen to host the BTC 2010 welcome dinner for buyers and media on 30 June.

“We are planning an open-air dinner, in one of the squares in the charming historic centre of the City of San Marino”, explains Catia Manduchi, director of San Marino Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Of course, it will have a medieval theme. The menu, with dishes and recipes from the period, the waiters in costume, the entertainment and the staging will all recall the period that marks San Marino’s architecture and cityscape.”

The atmospheric alleys of the historic centre, the squares, the churches and the castles of this city perched on the slopes of a steep mountain commanding a breath-taking view over the entire Romagna coast will form the backdrop for an enchanted evening. The Italian and international guests will be able to experience first-hand a destination that every year welcomes three million tourists, and which in 2009 set up a convention bureau to interact with the meetings industry and make the most of its top conference facilities, such as the Kursaal Conference Centre.

“We will put on a show featuring jugglers and historical characters that will truly capture the atmosphere of this small state,” says Catia Manduchi. “San Marino, which was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in July 2008, has enormous potential, especially on the international market. We would like to take our guests on a discovery tour of the city, but that’s as much as I’m going to say: we want the evening to be a really big surprise”.
