General Director of the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM) Valery Fedorov announced the results of the survey concerning the plans for summer vacations. The major topics of the research were: where, when and with whom they want to spend their vacations.

VCIOM has been conducting researches since 1990 and thanks to this experience it has an opportunity to compare the data of 2010 with the results of previous years.

Now the majority of the Russians (42%) have vacations for enjoying peace and quiet, and it used to be that people valued the holidays with health improvement treatments. Now such segment amounts only 27% and such kind of holiday is popular mostly among the people of 45 years old and older.

29% of the respondents choose the holidays with the purpose of finding new interesting people for communication, it’s popular mostly among the youth of 18 to 24 years old.

For the last several years the interest for family trips has increased (31%). So, it’s not surprising that a lot of votes were given for the category of beach holidays (38%). 49% of the Russians travel with the kids. According to the survey, the majority of the Russians (31%) preferred to spend the holidays with the family and every fifth (22%) left the kids at home.

For 49% of the respondents the determinant of the choosing the place and type of holidays is the price and only 33% of the people note that the quality is a very important factor. This data differs cardinally from the results of 1990. In 1990 49% of the respondents had preferences to quality and only 30% of people chose the price.

In 2010 the Russians are planning to spend 16207 rubles for vacations but most likely it won’t correspond to the reality. Noting that the average price of the tour is more than 700 USD and 29% of the respondents are dreaming of the holidays abroad and 26% of the people want to go to the Black sea, the sum spent for the holidays will be higher.
