This summer, Brighton will unveil its newest event facility; the £10 million Fulton Building.
Part of the University of Sussex campus, the seasonal venue will offer 3,000 sqm of space across three floors, including two 160 seat lecture theatres and 26 seminar rooms. The new build echoes the core campus buildings’ original architecture by Sir Basil Spence, with additional contemporary features designed to meet the highest environmental standards. This includes a leading-edge approach to natural ventilation that gives the building a low carbon footprint, and replacing a car park with a new attractive grass courtyard at the heart of campus. Inside, the building gives users a strong sense of light and space, and all rooms have excellent AV facilities.
The first event to use the Fulton Building was the 7th Biennial International Auto/Biography Association Conference “Life Writing and Intimate Publics” which took place on the 28th June. The four day event was attended by over 350 delegates from across the globe. Established in 1999, the association aims to broaden the world vision of auto/biographers, scholars and readers, to deepen the cross-cultural understanding of self, identity and experience, and to carry on global dialogues on life writing.
Commenting on the newest addition to Brighton & Hove’s business tourism portfolio, Darren Johnson, Convention Bureau Sales Manager, VisitBrighton said: “The Fulton Building represents just one of many city-wide initiatives and investments designed to enhance our destination product and embody our city’s green stance.”
