Southport Conferences has signed up as an official supporter of this year’s annual Britain for Events campaign, forming a key part in the North West resort’s plans to build on its reputation as a successful national conference destination.

The continued importance of driving business tourism to the area was highlighted recently in the release of The Mersey Partnership’s three year strategy for growth of the visitor economy in the Liverpool City Region.

Other strategies for growth include continued investment in public realm, transport, visitor information and destination welcome and attainment of a top 50 place for the region in the ICCA rankings for international conference business.

Mike Booth, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, Sefton Council, commented; “The Visitor Economy has been identified by local authorities and business leaders as a key sector where the Liverpool City Region has a competitive edge and significant growth potential. Business tourism forms a significant sector of Southport’s visitors, contributing massively to our local economy, and supporting our local businesses and jobs. It is an area that we are committed to growing moving forward.”
