A spectacular rock-face measuring 9 metres in width and 17 metres in height, will permit the participants to defy the laws of gravity along the ceilings of Hall 14
The next edition of NATURIVA ESQUI Y MONTAÑA, an event organised by IFEMA and ATUDEM, the Ski and Mountain Resort Tourist Association, will take place between 12th and 14th November at FERIA DE MADRID. This fair will provide the setting for the final trials of the Spanish Climbing Cup 2010. This final stage of the competition, which is characterised by its high levels of difficulty, enjoys the support of the Principality of Asturias, a region that serves as the sponsor for the official calendar of competitions organised by FEDME, the Spanish Federation of Mountain and Climbing Sports, throughout 2010. The trials and award presentations will take place on the weekend of 13th and 14th November.
Furthermore, the event this year will enable spectators to observe the progress of a “new” generation of climbers, given that, since the Spanish finals will coincide with the Final of the World Cup in Kranj (Slovenia), some of the figures that have dominated the podium positions throughout the year 2010 will not be taking part at the trials in Spain. Tony Roy, the head of the Spanish climbing team, believes that this is a positive development, given that it “is good to offer young climbers opportunities, so that the same competitors don’t always win”.
In this respect, the winner of the Spanish Climbing Cup 2010 could be decided from among the climbers, Víctor Esteller (Catalonia), Daniel Moreno (Aragon) and Gorka Karapeto (The Basque Country). All three candidates occupy the leading positions in general and have a chance of winning the Spanish title. With regard to the female climbers, Helena Alemán from Catalonia is in optimum position to win the title, although Itziar Rodríguez from the Basque Country and Sara Aicart from Aragon follow behind in close pursuit.
Maximum excitement is expected in both categories. In this respect, the trials staged at Naturiva Esquí y Montaña will once again be decisive in terms of bringing the yearly calendar to a thrilling close. The fair will also host the staging of the youth trials for the under-twenty, under-eighteen and under-sixteen categories. Thus, in carrying out these youth trials, the sport’s federations and organisers are investing all their efforts into guaranteeing a new generation to replace the present climbers.
The competition will bring together some 150 participants in the adult category and some 100 participants in the youth category, based on both men’s and women’s competitions. In order to stage the trials, the company, Top30, will set up a spectacular rock-face measuring 9 metres in width and 17 metres in height, thus permitting the participants to defy the laws of gravity along the ceilings of Hall 14 at FERIA DE MADRID. The rock-face will be constructed with Top Wave panels, the latest innovation from the Asturian company, one of the world’s leaders with regard to the design and manufacture of facilities of this kind.
As has become customary for the final stages of the climbing competition staged at Naturiva Esquí y Montaña, the design of the different itineraries has been entrusted to the climber from San Sebastian, Patxi Arocena. Patxi is one of the most highly celebrated Spanish climbers at an international level and will be responsible for determining the difficulty of the different itineraries: in the case of the Men’s Competition, the difficulty level will be 8C, whilst in the case of the women it will be 8A+.
