MILAN, October 7, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — Twenty two thousand cubic meters of helium were contained in a structure 80 metres long, 40 metres wide and 20 metres high, creating the world’s largest helium Balloon. These are just some of the numbers that describe the huge stage structure created by K-events (http://www.kevents.it), and it was defined as the star attraction of the XIX Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony held on 3rd October in New Delhi.

The technologically advanced and multi-functional structure was designed by the great stage designer, Mark Fisher. The balloon was built with materials from the United States, assembled in Great Britain and filled with helium from the United Arab Emirates.

The balloon was a cutting-edge project, requiring nine months of work and an international team of professionals from 6 countries. The helium balloon is a great set piece, unparalleled in the history of stage shows and the result of advanced engineering technology.

The helium balloon was designed as a multi-functional object: an eye-catching scenic element, a surface for video projections, a reflecting medium through a system of mirrors affixed underneath and an instrument for creating spectacular choreographies in the air. Moreover, as a result of its versatility, the balloon was also used as a technical support for specialized futuristic equipment, including video and lighting systems.

“I am really very proud that K-events was chosen to create this amazing structure that has enchanted millions and millions of viewers,” commented Marco Balich, President of K-events. “The project was assigned to us as a result of the trustworthiness and know-how gained over 30 years of experience which allowed us to complete this titanic creation which has never before been achieved.”

The balloon contributed to the development of more important segments of the ceremony, turning itself into a marvellous tree of knowledge, allowing the hoisting of giant puppets typical of Rajasthan that enchanted the audience by interpreting a traditional dance and making a giant yoga man fly in front of an astonished public.
