Madrid, November 2010. Central America’s presence at FITUR, coordinated by the region’s Tourism Agency (CATA) will be expanded at the 2011 edition. In this way, its already noteworthy participation is set to rise by 24% compared to last year, evidence of the importance of the International Tourism Fair, organized by IFEMA and held in Madrid from January 19th – 23rd, 2011 for the promotion of this destination in the Spanish market – Europe’s leading source of tourists to the region.

Along these lines, CATA’s stand at FITUR will feature new options and attractions enhancing Central America’s appeal as a travel destination while highlighting Madrid’s role as a source of both Spanish and European tourists to the area. Among other services, since last October IBERIA has opened up new flights from the Spanish capital to San Salvador, becoming the first airline to link the Old Continent with the Salvadoran city. Also, the Spanish airline has begun operating nonstop flights to Panama, slashing travel time from Madrid by an average of four hours.

The increase in airline routes will be rounded out by the opening of new hotels which CATA will also present as part of the selection of services featured at the FITUR stand. Hotel capacity will increase in, among other segments, business and luxury accommodation in destinations like Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama. In addition, projects such as Nicaragua’s Jícaro Lodge will be presented, a facility created in harmony with area aesthetics and using local wood certified by the international group The Rainforest Alliance. Among its services, this unique hotel offers organic food, while biodegradable products are used to maintain it and recycling is promoted.
