Muggles all over the country are poised with excitement for the penultimate Potter film – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 – which is released next weekend (19th November). Skyscanner reveals the must-see locations for die-hard Potter fans.
Leavesden Studios, Hertfordshire
Most of the filming for the entire Harry Potter series has taken place at this former factory. Following the recent investment by Warner Bros plans are afoot for a Harry Potter museum which will hold sets from the films, and spectrum of wizarding memorabilia; opening is expected in Easter 2012.
Swinley Forest, Berkshire
This area was used in both parts of The Deathly Hallows films for scenes including the capture of our heroes by the Snatchers who then deliver them to Malfoy Manor. Swinley Forest also played host to several other scenes involving the devilish Death Eaters and some snowy winter scenes.
Freshwater West, Wales
This beautiful 1.2km stretch of beach in south-west Wales hosted “Shell Cottage”, the home of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour who move there following their marriage. The building itself was a temporary structure and no trace of it remains, but you can still visit the area and see the spot where it once stood.
Lavenham, Suffolk
This quintessentially olde English village with its crooked, half-timbered houses became the fictional town of Godric’s Hollow in the new film. It was this village in which Harry’s parents lived before they were killed by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Lord Voldemort.
Streets of London
Various companies offer tours taking in locations such as Diagon Alley, where Harry picks up his supplies of spell books and of course the now infamous platform 9¾ at Kings Cross Station. For this latest instalment, filming took place in Piccadilly Circus, Shaftesbury Avenue and Whitehall.
Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Orlando
Part of Universal’s Islands of Adventure, the Wizarding World, which opened earlier this year, is full of sights from the Potter universe. Muggles can visit Ollivander’s Wand Shop, Hagrid’s Hut and Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods, or take on the Dragon Challenge ride. So grab your broom stick and head to Florida; failing that, regularflights to Orlando will have to do!
