The Canary Islands Tourist Authority is promoting its “Say No To Winter Blues” campaign by live-streaming images of its seven islands, reminding visitors to World Travel Market that the temperature there is currently 70-degrees plus.
Juan Hiemenz, Trade Fairs Chief for Promotur, said: “Winter blues is something most people in northern Europe can relate to. We’ve set up the webcams on the islands to show visitors how beautiful they are at this time of year. And how warm.”
He added that the Canaries was seeing an “important revival” in tourism this year, with the UK still its number one source market, followed by Germany. He said that the decision to reduce or remove airport charges to encourage airlines to serve the islands was driving the improvement. “As it becomes easier to get to the Canaries, we expect this improvement to continue.”
The live webcam feed is being used by the islands for the first time at a trade show.
Each of the Canaries’ seven islands is part of the web streaming. The feed from Gran Canaria shows the Playa de Maspalomas while the Teide used to highlight Tenerife.
The other feeds are: El Hierro – Valle de Frontera; La Palma – Playa de los Cancajos; Lanzarote – Playa de Peurto del Carmen; Fuerteventura – Grandes Playas e Isla de Lobos; and La Gomera – San Sebastian beach and marine.
“
The idea is to promote the Canaries as the ideal winter sun break destination. The islands all have the same climate but are slightly different,” he said.
