Almost 23 years passed from Copenhagen Airport was opened as one of the first civil airports in the world in 1925 until the airport passed the first million passengers. Aviation in Denmark grows much faster nowadays, and in the past year an average of almost 1.8 million passengers travelled through Copenhagen Airport per month. This meant that late in the day of 27 December, Copenhagen Airport served passenger number 600,000,000.
“It is not a matter of course that a relatively sparsely populated area such as Scandinavia has the 15th busiest airport in Europe. The reason is that, historically, we have always been the principal airport of SAS, and that we constantly work to expand our route network in order to enhance international accessibility to Denmark,” said Carsten Nørland, VP for Sales and Marketing at Copenhagen Airports.
The huge passenger number will be marked by a competition on the Copenhagen Airport website and iPhone and Android apps. The first prize is a trip for two to New York.
The first prize of the competition is sponsored by SAS, which, being the biggest customer of Copenhagen Airport, has carried at least half the 600 million passengers. For more information go to cph.dk and CPH’s iPhone and Android apps.
