4.5% more visitors / 5.6% more room nights

Berlin, 12 January 2011 Whoever thought that the success numbers of November 2009 would not be topped, will be positively surprised by a look at the current statistics: even without special celebrations the German capital recorded an increase in its number of visitors. According to information provided by the Statistics Office of Berlin-Brandenburg a total of 736,714 visitors came to Berlin in November 2010. This 4.5% rise versus November 2009 is all the more amazing because the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Wall in November 2009 had resulted in record numbers.

The guests from Germany and abroad spent a total of 1.6 million bed nights in the Berlin accommodation facilities. This corresponds to a 5.6% plus. The number of international visitors amounted to 242,167 (+ 8%). The German capital was in particularly high demand for tourists from the USA (+ 6.1%), the United Kingdom (+ 7.5%), Spain (+ 8.7%) and from the Netherlands (+ 8.9%). For guests from Russia the rise amounted even to 45%. 494,547 guests (+ 2.9%) from Germany travelled to Berlin in November and spent 957,271 room nights in the city on the River Spree.

Overall, the international visitors were able to choose from 112,366 beds of 747 accommodation providers. With 53.4% hotels with 250 to less than 500 beds had a particularly good capacity utilisation. The tourists’ duration of stay was on average 2.1 days.
