Visit London, the official visitor organisation for the capital, has today announced that CEO Sally Chatterjee will be stepping down in April. Chatterjee has been at Visit London for 4 years and took on the role of CEO in 2008.
The announcement comes as Visit London, Think London and Study London prepare to join together to promote London globally.
Confirming the announcement, Sally Chatterjee commented,
“It has been a great privilege to have lead Visit London through some exciting times. It’s been a pleasure to work with the team at Visit London, who have always shown incredible drive, passion and creativity on all the projects we deliver. Hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games next year means that there has never been a bigger opportunity for London’s tourism industry to showcase itself to the world, and I leave secure in the knowledge that we have delivered the strategy to ensure that there will be a significant economic legacy from the Games for the tourism industry.”
Tamara Ingram, Chair, Visit London commented,
“I would personally like to thank Sally for her outstanding contribution to Visit London. Since its establishment in 2003, Visit London has delivered an incremental £2 billion in revenue for the nation and in the last four years alone, Visit London has developed a number of award winning campaigns to promote the capital to leisure and business visitors. The most recent campaign “Only in London” generated well over £100m in economic benefit to London which has attracted thousands of extra visitors to London and Britain.”
She added:
“Under Sally’s leadership, Visit London has worked with a whole range of London partners to make a real difference to the capital’s tourism industry.”
Since becoming host city for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Visit London has delivered some core activities for the promotion of London including a global tourism infrastructure for the travel industry and media, a world class convention bureau, London’s 2012 Fair Pricing and Practice Charter as well as preparations for visitors during Games-time.
The core business objectives of Visit London will be delivered through the new promotional agency from 1st April 2011.
