The Maslenitsa Russian Festival is coming up next month in London and could give tourists something a bit different to do during their stay in the capital.
While the essence of the event is a celebration of Maslenitsa, a pre-Lent occasion, it also offers people a chance to get to know the culture in Russia a little better.
The festival has roots in both pagan and Christian history, but the spectacle taking place in London on March 6th has more in common with a music show than a religious day.
A packed line-up of Russian pop, rock and folk acts are on the bill for the celebration, which will take centre stage in Trafalgar Square and see food stalls selling traditional cuisine such as blinis – a type of pancake.
Among the acts due to play at this free event are the Ivan Kupala Band, Bayan Mix, Moral Codex and Kvatro.
The Maslenitsa Russian Festival has been held in Potters Fields over the past two years, but its popularity has helped it graduate to one of the most important landmarks in London.
