International biomass conference at messecongress, Graz sets new visitor records with over 1000 participants.

The 2011 Central European Biomass Conference attracted 1,054 participants from 33 countries to the messecongress|graz. From 26-29 January international experts converged on the Styrian capital to exchange notes on biomass and bioenergy. On the opening day a total of 150 delegates took part in seven visits to leading biomass plant manufacturers and bioenergy project sites across Austria, including heating stations, biogas and biomass plants, pellet producers, wood-fired power plants and biofuels facilities.
The conference represented a major opportunity to capture new business, so these Austrian-based global technology leaders will also feel the benefits of the programme of excursions. Renewable energy has a vital role to play in driving forward initiatives to combat the effects of climate change and boost security of energy supply in the long term. To this end the event organisers issued a rallying call – titled the Graz Declaration – to the governments of the delegates’ home countries.
Visitors from the Far East and South America. Europe was well represented at the event, with delegates from Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia and the UK in attendance. However, the number of visitors from further afield was particularly encouraging – the conference attracted experts from Brazil, Canada, China, India, South Korea, Turkey and the USA.
