New flights from Athens to Moscow and Bologna
New flights from Thessaloniki to Moscow and Paris
New flights from Larnaca to London Heathrow and 6 additional destinations in Greece
AEGEAN pursues its long-term investment policy, always aiming to enhance the options offered to the Greek public as well as to support tourism.
New destinations abroad for additional choices, more frequent flights to major existing destinations aiming to bolster the airline’s position towards the competition, laying emphasis on direct connections of Greek regional destinations to foreign markets in order to support tourism; these are AEGEAN’s three principle growth targets for 2011.
Specifically, commencing its summer schedule, AEGEAN will enhance its network, launching flights from Athens to Moscow and Bologna, new destinations from Thessaloniki to Moscow and Paris, while at the same time establishing a base of operations in Larnaca, Cyprus, and starting direct flights to London/Heathrow from Larnaca, as well as direct flights to six destinations in Greece; Heraklion, Rhodes, Chania, Kos, Mykonos and Santorini.
Moreover, the company increases its frequency of flights from Athens to London/Heathrow (up to 4 daily flights), Rome (up to 3 daily flights), Paris/CDG (up to 3 daily flights), Brussels (2 daily flights), Barcelona (up to 10 flights per week) and Madrid (up to 10 flights per week).
Great importance is placed on the enhancement of the direct connections network from Thessaloniki, which now numbers 18 domestic and international routes from the city that serves as permanent base for five of the Airbus A320 aircraft family.
With these additions, AEGEAN now reaches a total of 35 domestic and 24 international routes, not including the significant number of extra destinations in crucial markets covered by six of the company’s aircraft operating in the charter market.
Dimitris Gerogiannis, AEGEAN’s Managing Director, stated: “We are moving ahead on a steady course with deliberate steps, despite the extremely difficult circumstances. We are offering new options, opening up new strategic international markets like Russia, creating direct overseas connections to several Greek cities, utilizing our presence and personnel in major international markets in the best way possible. Despite our increased attention abroad, the domestic network continues to constitute the core of AEGEAN’s network, since it allows us to meet the primary and fundamental demand of the Greek public, but at the same time it is what fuels our international network.”
