Several riding rings, on the edge of the capital, offer riding lessons given by qualified instructors. The Société d’Équitation de Paris occupies two hectares, in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne, in a listed site dating back to the Second Empire. Three riding rings and a sand ring for ponies enable beginners and experienced riders, as well as children, to enjoy the joys of horse riding. In the same district, l’Étrier de Paris has 2 riding rings and a sand ring and a Shetland pony club and adult pony club, as well as 2 riding schools, from beginner to
competition. In the Jardin d’acclimatation, the Poney-club du Jardin is open to young riders and adults (beginners and experienced) for lessons and has a huge area for practicing jumps.
In the east of the capital, Bayard UCPA Équitation has 3 riding rings and 4 sand rings, (including one outside the centre, which enables riders to become accustomed to outings) and a pony club. An official cross-country trail is also available to riders, for a familiarization session.
In the north of Paris, the Centre équestre de la Villette, close to the Cité des Sciences has a stable of 70 ponies and horses for beginners and experienced riders. In the south, the Poney-club de l’île Saint Germain is housed in a fine 19th-century former (fully renovated) warehouse, and also has an outdoor sand ring.
