The Austria Center Vienna (ACV) is making a major effort to go green. The main focus is on sustainable and resource-saving technologies. Resource conservation was a major concern during the recent renovation programme, and the ACV’s latest project again sends a message about its commitment to green policies. Eight free electric car charging points are due to enter service this summer.
In future it will be possible to “fill up” electric cars in the ACV’s underground car park using power connections or safety sockets. It will take seven to eight hours for a full charge. “Delegates who drive to a conference in an electric car will be able to use our convenient car park and ‘fill up’ free of charge. They will save time and money – and do their bit for the environment, since almost 95% of our electricity is hydro power,” said Austria Center CEO Thomas Rupperti.
Other examples also show that the ACV is an ecological trendsetter in the conference business. It is the only Austrian convention centre with a germ-free ventilation system, uses well water instead of drinking water to flush its toilets, has a solar water heating system, and is in the process of going over to LED lighting.
Car park upgraded but charges unchanged
Despite a comprehensive upgrade in the summer of 2011 and the new charging points, the underground car park at the ACV will not be putting up its rates. The price of an all-day ticket remains at EUR 10, and regulars pay an attractive EUR 65 per month.
