Singex Group Welcomes New General Managers

Mr Chandran Nair, former Deputy General Manager of Singex Venues Pte Ltd, the managing company of Singapore’s largest purpose-built meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition (MICE) facility, has assumed a new role in Project Management at Singex Exhibition Ventures Pte Ltd.

At the same time, Mr Bob Chan, who has held leadership positions in major property developers such as CapitaLand Retail and Lend Lease, has come onboard to head Centre Affairs at Singapore EXPO Convention and Exhibition Centre.

These two new appointments will strengthen Singex’s core capabilities in event and venue management, and ensure it is in prime position to become Asia’s leading business event solutions provider.

Mr Chandran Nair

As General Manager (Project Management), Chandran leads in the creation and management of conferences and exhibitions as well as the establishment of global alliances and partnerships. He will continue to serve as Project Director for Singapore’s longest running IT exhibition, SITEX, and advisor to the S$55 million EXPO upgrading project together with Singapore Tourism Board. Up till June 2011, he was Deputy General Manager for EXPO, where he was in charge of facility and tenant management as well as centre programming initiatives. Over the years, he was involved in several overseas ventures, including the development and management of Binhai International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Tianjin, China, and Qatar MICE Development Institute in Doha, Qatar.

A veteran of the regional MICE industry, Chandran is the Vice President of Singapore Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers and Chairman of its Continuing Education and Training Sub-Committee. He started his illustrious career at Port of Singapore Authority, where he honed his facility management skills at Singapore’s first MICE venue, World Trade Centre. He has also led multiple major local, regional as well as international business events over the years, including Asia Pacific Maritime, International Maritime Defence and Exhibition (the second largest naval defence show in the world), and Singapore International Bunkering Conference.

Mr Bob Chan

As General Manager (Centre Affairs), Bob heads the Centre Management Services as well as Operations & Service Quality teams, leading facility and tenant management, centre programming as well as service excellence initiatives. He is also overseeing the S$55 million EXPO upgrading project together with Singapore Tourism Board.

Prior to joining Singex, Bob has held several leadership positions with major property developers in the region. He was most recently General Manager, Property Management at APM Property Management Pte Ltd. As Development Manager with Lend Lease Retail Pte Ltd, he was part of the team which developed 313@Somerset, a 300,000 square feet retail mall in Singapore’s prime shopping district, Orchard Road.

During his tenure as Vice-President of Project Development & Management at CapitaLand Retail Limited, Bob was involved in numerous asset enhancement initiatives including the redevelopment of Singapore suburban malls, Lot 1 Choa Chu Kang, International Merchandise Mart, Jurong Entertainment Centre, and Sembawang Shopping Centre. He also participated in the feasibility analyses of Somerset Central, Serangoon Central, and One-North Cultural, Civic & Recreation Centre at Rochester.

Bob has also served overseas stints over the years. As General Manager, he was instrumental in establishing the corporate identity and steel reinforcing supply business throughout Australia for EW Reinforcement Pty Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NatSteel Asia. He was also chiefly responsible for business development, finance, human resources and marketing functions for the company.
