The first statistical analysis of corporate accommodation buying patterns has become available from Hotelzon Online, the pioneering hotel booking technology from hotel sector IT specialist Hotelzon.

Unlike other data readily available, the statistics reflect the real-time buying patterns of corporate accommodation only and highlight the behaviours of Hotelzon Online’s users. The analysis of corporate and public sector buyers shows evidence of a more concise and considerate business travel strategy for 2011 when compared with 2010.

  • Figures highlight in Q4 of 2010 the average length of stay was 1.71 nights. Projections for the same period in 2011 highlight a more robust outlook with length of stay increasing by 76.3% to 2.24 nights.
  • In Q1 reservations on average in 2010 were made 12.4 days out whereas 2011 had a shorter lead in time of 11.47 days.
  • Organisation is key, with accommodation bookings being made and confirmed at the beginning of the week, 22% on Monday and 20% on Tuesday. Thursday and Friday account for 34% of bookings collectively.
  • 53.5% of the day’s bookings are made between 11am – 3pm; a figure concurrent in 2010 and 2011.
  • Bookings for single travellers in 2011 have increased by 2.04% to 88.86% but bookings for 2 travellers have decreased by 2.07% to 10.21%.
  • 47% of corporates continue to book their employees in to 4* hotels and 40% still choose 3* hotels.
  • 2011 has seen a 45% decrease in corporates booking employees in to 5* hotels as travel policies tighten.

Jani Kaskinen, CEO Hotelzon said, “The data collected reflects the decisions corporates are making and monitoring on a quarterly basis to meet the needs of their own company initiatives. As expected, the changes in global economic landscape and business travel strategies have seen corporates shift their focus on cost cutting to include lower star properties, less employees staying overnight and shorter lead in times.”
