Between 13 and 18 May 2012 Warsaw will host the World Finals of the prestigious 36th ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest. Year in, year out, Polish students have always achieved leading places, and in the last ten years the representatives of the University of Warsaw have won the contest twice (in 2003 and 2007).
The decision to choose the Polish Capital as the venue for the 2012 World Finals was undoubtedly influenced by Warsaw’s organisational capabilities, which were presented during the study visit organised in 2010 by Convention Bureau of Poland, Warsaw Convention Bureau, and the University of Warsaw. Representatives of the ACM ICPC were shown the Warsaw 4-star and 5-star hotels that were capable of providing 100 computers for groups of three people, and interesting venues for galas.
Next year Warsaw will be hosting the 300 best young programmers from over 80 countries in the world. The President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski will take Honorary Patronage over the event, and the following institutions have declared their support in organising it:
• Ministry of the Economy
• Ministry of Science and Higher Education
• Ministry of the Interior and Administration
• Ministry of Foreign Affairs
• Ministry of Education
• Mayor of Warsaw
• Governor of the Mazowieckie Province
