According to On the Beach the summer holiday season is off to a great start with many Brits heading to sunny seaside resorts in the Mediterranean.
On the Beach, the UK’s leading online travel agency, is hailing 2011 as a great summer for the travel industry. According to the company, many Brits are taking off on family holidays to the Mediterranean to enjoy themselves at sunny resorts in Spain, Greece and Turkey.
This surge of British tourists heading abroad is couched in the general growth of leisure travel this summer. A report published by Pegasus Solutions, a travel technology solutions company, showed that hotel bookings in May increased by 8.3 per cent globally – according to On the Beach this is a sure-fire indicator that many people are travelling abroad this summer.
Alistair Daly, Marketing Director of On the Beach, says: “May was a good month for the travel industry as people were very keen to get the holiday period off to a sunny start. We saw a particularly large amount of our customers focus on budget holidays to seaside resorts in the Mediterranean. This is great news as after a long, cold winter many Brits were clearly in desperate need of a dose of sunshine.”
Daly continues: “Early indicators show that June and July will see even more people take holidays abroad. Our customers are still keen to save money, yet they are definitely focused on getting away for at least a week or so: this combination of factors has made cheap flights to the Mediterranean very popular.”
