Researchers from across the world will be gathering in Manchester this September to report on the latest developments of taste and smell.

The European Chemoreception Organisation (ECRO) XXI Congress will take place at the Manchester Conference Centre from Wednesday 7 to Saturday 10 September 2011.

The 21st ECRO Congress will address research in the field of chemoreception, spanning all aspects from invertebrates to humans. Topics will range from biology of the sensory systems to perfumes and foods, and insects to mammals, as well as clinical measurements and treatments in humans.

Delegates will include scientists, students, young researchers and industrialists from a wide variety of disciplines with interests in chemoreception.

Visit Manchester has worked closely with Professor Krishna Persaud (The University of Manchester) and his team for a number of years to bring this conference to the UK and to Manchester.

Professor Krishna Persaud is a member of Visit Manchester’s Conference Ambassador Programme – a network that aims to support and assist local academics and professionals seeking to bring their industry conference to the city.

Paul Simpson, managing director of Visit Manchester, said: “This is a fantastic example of our Conference Ambassador Programme in action and we are delighted to be welcoming scientists from the field of chemoreception to the city.”

Professor Persaud added: “It’s a thrill to be holding the ECRO congress in Manchester and the help from the staff at Visit Manchester has been invaluable. The congress is an established forum for interaction of leading scientists and young researchers and we expect intense scientific discussions as well as social interaction.”
