Convention City Berlin in top form

Current statistics show significant rise in the number of room nights and participants.

Berlin, 5 September 2011 – More events, participants and room nights – that’s the outcome of the current visitBerlin congress statistics for the first half-year 2011. According to the most recent numbers, room nights alone increased to about 3 million – 15% more than during the comparable prior year period.

From January to June 53,450 meetings and conventions were staged in Berlin (+1%). The number of participants rose by 2% to 4.3 million. As far as the duration of the events is concerned, Berlin is with an average of 2.2 days far ahead of the national average.*

“Berlin has firmly established itself in the international leader group,” says visitBerlin CEO Burkhard Kieker. “Constantly new event spaces and cultural offerings show that the Berlin capital is in top form!”

For medical conventions Berlin is already the world market leader. 11% of all events during the first half-year 2011 are accounted for by this sector. Furthermore, the German capital is in particularly high demand in the field of commerce (11%).

The congress statistics are entered twice a year into the online tool congress-berlin.net. At present 328 Berlin hotels, convention centres and locations participate. The results are evaluated by the independent market research company GHH Consult GmbH and published by the Berlin Convention Office of visitBerlin.
