Gdansk is the maritime capital of Poland. Owing to its location it has always been a strategic port at the coast of Baltic Sea. Now an opportunity arose to once again build a steady cooperation among Baltic cities and ports by commencing cooperation with the Cruise Baltic partners. Port of Gdansk, along with the city of Gdansk decided to join the Cruise Baltic. The idea is inspired by former cooperation of Baltic cities in the Hanseatic League rooting back to the 14th and 15th century. The synergy of the initiatives nowadays will strengthen common marketing and branding the Baltic Sea region.
We welcome the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with Cruise Baltic members on how to raise attractiveness of the city to the cruise ships passengers, create a local network and develop tourism products. As a tourism trends tend to change in time, it is a destination’s challenge to identify and fulfill the needs of tourist. With all that cruising business has to offer, it is believed to have a promising future in global tourism industry. This is the reason being for Gdansk to intensify its activities in this field. Having Cruise Baltic as a trusted and respected partner will make our efforts more effective.

Gdansk has had a great development as a tourism destination in recent years. New infrastructure, hotels and tourism attractions have been built or renewed. The city is now well connected to the outer world by air, road and sea connections.
The announcement was made during the Cruise Baltic Reception on the 28th of September in Humburg during Seatrade show.
‘Our goal is to increase number of cruises coming into the Port and raise awareness of Gdansk’s offer for tourists’ – ads Anna Gorska. ‘Our city has much to show to the world!’ Gdansk wants to expand Cruise Baltic’s offer with more than thousand years of history, medieval Old Town and scenic beaches. It is also known for being the World Capital of Amber and hometown of Hevelius, Fahrenheit, Schopenhauer and Lech Walesa – Nobel Peace Prize laureate. And there is still more to see and do.
Both Gdansk Tourist Organization and Port of Gdansk Authority SA will represent Gdańsk in the Cruise Baltic Project.
The Gdansk Tourist Organization (GTO) is an institution which coordinates tourism in Gdansk and cooperates with the local tourism industry and the local government within this scope. It was established in 2003 by the City of Gdansk. The Gdansk Tourist Organization is city’s exclusive partner in tourism-related issues. Our activities include: developing and promoting various aspects of tourism in Gdansk and the Pomeranian region; promoting the landscape, recreational, folk, cultural and tourist qualities of Pomerania, as well as spreading knowledge about the region’s history; integrating tourist organizations and the local government; providing tourist information in Gdansk.
The Port of Gdansk is the biggest Polish port composed of two major sections with naturally diverse operational parameters: the Inner Port and the Outer Port. In Gdansk, cruise passengers are offered several berths located in the Inner Port: Westerplatte Quay, WOC II Quay and Ziolkowskiego Quay. Cruise passengers arriving to Gdansk by cruise vessels can reach the historical Old Town either by a shuttle bus or by taxi.
