Women strips naked in protest of airport search

Many of us have been searched when passing through airport customs as a security precaution.

However, passengers waiting in Bermuda airport saw a lot more than they bargained for when an irate woman, Loukai Phillips, stripped completely naked in front of customs officials after being told that they needed to search her luggage.

A Bermudan resident, now living in London, Ms Phillips later explained in court that she was tired of being searched every time she passed through customs in Bermuda and had stripped naked in protest at the request. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge by the magistrate.

Her lawyer explained, after the hearing, that Ms Phillips had taken her clothes off in frustration at constantly having to be searched every time she passed through Bermuda airport customs, and had made an ‘impetuous decision’. The magistrate told her that staff  have a job to do and ‘if you don’t want to be searched, don’t come through customs’.

It seems that airport staff  are seeing increasingly fraught behaviour from passengers. Earlier in the year a 61 year old woman became an internet heroine after groping a member of security staff after being subjected to a pat down body search, saying it was an invasion of her personal privacy –

It seems the term ‘anything to declare’ has taken on a whole new meaning!
