“Not many people know about this Black Sea Pearl located east of the Russian resort Sochi” says Ola Kastensson Managing Director of Russkie Prostori. “My first impression visiting Abkhazia was filled with emotions and excitements of the charming untouched nature and mystique. I sometimes was in doubt being in Jamaica, Corsica or Cuba…”.

This small country have a limited International access through Russia by land and sea and the company is now offering day tours for the International MICE market to Sochi by hydrofoils during season and by coach during off season.

The boarder is located only 20 minutes from Sochi airport towards the east and is reached by Hydrofoils from Sochi to Gagra during season (1 and a half hour) or by coach passing the boarder during winter season. The country itself is located near the Caucasian mountain range in the north and the east side of the Black Sea with a population of around 300.000 inhabitants. The highlights of Abkhazia are the beautiful nature and mountain regions in this sub tropical zone of the Black Sea. Palm trees are seen everywhere along the coastline and the water is one of the cleanest spots near the Black Sea. Other beautiful places to visit are the old site of Noviy Athon, Petsunda, Sukhumi the Capital, Gagra Park, many monasteries and ancient cities. Abkhazia is also famous in the region for its wine production but somewhat to sweet for a Western taste. However, an excellent supplement to the tasteful Caucasian food that is served with local spices and with a home made touch!

“Abkhazia will develop quickly and will have many benefits of the Olympic developments in Sochi” – says Ola Kastensson. “Investments and development can make Abkhazia a future MICE destination in combination with Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana with its charm, beauty and unexploited infra structure and beaches.
