Echo Arena celebrated the homecoming of Liverpool’s biggest musical legend, Sir Paul McCartney, by presenting him with its inaugural Icon Award.
The Beatles star played to a sell-out venue for the glittering finale to his worldwide On The Run tour.
Sir Paul was presented with the specially-designed accolade to commemorate the first time he has played at the Liverpool waterfront venue.
He expressed his delight at accepting the award from Echo Arena ahead of the Tuesday night concert.
Bob Prattey, chief executive, said: “Sir Paul is the biggest musical icon of all time so we hope our award is a fitting tribute to mark his debut here at Echo Arena.
“He seemed extremely proud to accept the award and thrilled to be playing in Liverpool for the final leg of his latest tour.
“Last time he played on the Liverpool waterfront was in 2003 on a site adjacent to where Echo Arena now stands. We were proud to show him how it has now developed into a world-class Arena and welcoming huge acts such as Sir Paul continues to be a real coup for the city.”
