Easter is just around the corner! Are you ready to fill up your egg baskets? Are your shoelaces tied up properly? Then we’re ready to go! On Sunday 8th April at 3pm, young and old alike can join in the biggest Easter Egg hunt in the world. Thousands of fair trade chocolate eggs will be hidden some of Brussels’ parks to try and make a new world record.

On the initiative of the Brussels-Capital Region, this huge hunt is being put on by VISITBRUSSELS with the help of a number of municipalities in partnership with Max Havelaar Belgium, the fair trade label. The fair trade system is well known as a shining example in the battle against poverty in the South.

The biggest problem in the cultivation of cocoa in Ivory Coast and Ghana is child labor. Fair trade chocolate guarantees a minimum income for cocoa producers. This year, Max Havelaar is launching a campaign: “Soyons fiers de notre chocolat, choisissons-le équitable!” (Let’s be proud of our chocolate, but let’s buy it fair!). A chocolate figurine called “Max” will be created to explain the problems of cocoa and educate children and adults to make the choice to buy more fair trade chocolate.

The precious treasures will be produced by chocolate makers BELVAS, the first ecological chocolate maker in northern Europe, and so in Belgium too. Its Easter Eggs are small gastronomical delights, in white, milk and dark chocolate, plain or filled with hazelnut praline, will go down well with young and old alike!

To break the world record, over 501,000 eggs have to be distributed in 10 different parks. 505,000 eggs will be hidden in the Astrid park (Anderlecht), the Bois de la Cambre (Brussels), the Sobieski Park (Brussels), the Cinquantenaire park (Etterbeek), the Duden Park (Forest), the de l’Aulne Park (Ixelles), the Pierre Paulus park (Saint-Gilles), the Tournay-Solvay park (Watermael-Boitsfort), and the Wolvendael park (Uccle), along with 1 other park in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.

We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible!
