Barcelona, May 24, 2012 – Hotelbeds, the leading global accommodation wholesaler, marks its 10th Anniversary with a celebration of its success in the Americas and outlines its future growth plans. Hotelbeds held its annual Americas Workshop, May 21 – 25, 2012, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, brought together over 350 customers and suppliers from 21 markets, including Canada, U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and throughout Central and South America.
At the opening presentation Carlos Muñoz, Managing Director, Hotelbeds, explained that the business has had phenomenal growth rates over the last decade driven by the international expansion of the business. He mentioned that in the last eight years Hotelbeds has been growing its presence in the Americas and it now has offices in the U.S., the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Costa Rica and Brazil. He noted that the Americas source markets and destinations have grown on average 60% over the last three years and that they now have over 100 source markets selling accommodation into the region.
Carlos Muñoz explained that the Americas had become an increasingly important part of Hotelbeds business representing 10% of volumes in 2008 to 24% in 2011. He announced that Hotelbeds Americas is expected to grow a further 20% by 2015, which is over three times the expected market growth (estimated at 6.3%). The key expansion areas will be in the source markets and destinations of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and the U.S. He also announced that they planned to increase the amount of accommodation in the Americas on the Hotelbeds booking systems by 24% in 2013.
Carlos Muñoz commented: “The Americas are one of our fastest growing source markets and destinations. Our local and source market teams, working closely with our customers and suppliers, have achieved excellent results in the region so far. We are now investing for future growth by increasing our hotel inventory and expanding in the source markets and destinations to ensure that we continue to outperform the market.”
