The 9th International TUI Marathon Palma de Mallorca will be offering two new attractions. The Friday before the main event will be dedicated to the walkers with the new “Walking Day“. The participants in the Walking and Nordic Walking disciplines can look forward not only to their own day for starting, but also to a new route along the beach promenade of the Balearic metropolis. There’s also a pleasant surprise in store for the runners who decide to take on the 10-km route in the TUI Marathon: the route has been redesigned and moved from the harbour to the Old Town of Palma, where it takes the runners past tourist attractions such as the Plaza Major and the famous La Seu Cathedral.

Michael Lambertz, Director Group Marketing TUI Travel: “By moving the 10-km route to the Old Town we want to create a greater incentive and attract even more enthusiasts of Spanish city flair. After all, the historical city centre of Palma is an absolute treat. The Walking Day is intended as an extra highlight for walker and spectators.“

Once again this year the ATB, the tourist office of the Balearics, is on board as a partner of the TUI Marathon. Carlos Delgado Truyos, Tourism Minister of the Balearic Government: “We are proud that TUI is organising the now ninth edition of the TUI Marathon here on Majorca. In particular the fact that runners from over 50 countries are taking part is proof that Majorca is a special holiday destination which offers holidaymakers not just sun and beach, but also an ideal place to hold an event of this size.”

The team sport specialist JAKO, the outfitter for the TUI Marathon Palma de Mallorca for the first time in 2011, is continuing its involvement. JAKO will in 2012 again be producing the finisher shirts for the runners as well as the T shirts for the voluntary helpers and the Marathon Team.

The number of registered runners for the the 9th TUI Marathon Palma de Mallorca on 21 October 2012 is at a similar level to that of last year. This firmly confirms the “most beautiful island marathon in the world“ as an autumn highlight in the international running and holiday calendar.
