The first 20 visitors to Kyoto Convention Bureau’s stand at AIBTM (Baltimore, USA) next week will be presented with an amulet from Kurumazaki shrine to help them be more successful in their business.
One experience that defines meeting events in Kyoto is the complete immersion in Japanese heritage. There are nearly 2,000 Shinto shrines in Kyoto, and many of them support business coming to the city and are available for corporate events.
Shinto is the indigenous set of beliefs that has guided Japanese society for millennia. The amulet bag contains a stone from the Kurumazaki shrine which honours the Confucian scholar in the Heian period, and people come from all over the world to pray for success at Kurumazaki. The shrine has also hosted clients from internationally known companies.
James Kent, Kyoto Convention Bureau’s international marketing manager, comments: “With its history of 1,218 years, Kyoto embodies everything that is Japanese and its refined culture adds great value to business events. The amulet is deeply ingrained in Kyoto culture and wishing visitors success in business is the reason we have chosen to present visitors to our AIBTM stand with the amulet from the Kurumazaki shrine. If worshippers pray on the sacred stone it is believed their wishes for prosperity will be granted. If their wishes are granted, they are supposed to dedicate a larger stone when they visit the shrine. The shrine experience is fundamental to any event taking place in Kyoto and we hope that by giving people the amulet to bring them success they will be encourage to come to the city for future meetings and events.”
