Following an internal restructuring, Jonathan Cohen, Head of Business Events, UK & Ireland and International Sales & Marketing Manager for VisitDenmark has decided to leave the company.
“I have decided the time is right to set up my own company, Azimuth Marketing & Communications, that will offer project based sales & marketing support services for the meetings & events industry. With 25 years experience in the meetings and incentive industry including the last 12 years working for VisitDenmark, I am well placed to understand the sector and offer creative and practical marketing and sales solutions for destinations, regional tourism organisations, DMC’s and other specialists in the industry. Azimuth will also offer sales training, representation, branding, PR support as well as other short term contracts.Having worked for hotels, DMC’s and VisitDenmark, I have found a niche in the market for someone to offer these services,” says Jonathan.
With radical overhauls of many tourism organisations’ budgets in recent years and the increased competition to attract MICE business to destinations, there are plenty of opportunities for someone to help organisations realize their potential in this sector and add a thin red line strategic approach to the ways they operate in this lucrative market. I have had an amazing journey whilst being involved with Denmark. It’s a fantastic destination for business events, and I am sure that I will be keeping in good contact with many of my colleagues in the trade there. However, I felt that now was the right time to move on and use my knowledge of the industry to pursue a broader range of options,” Jonathan continues.
Jonathan is a well known character in the Meetings Industry, having been a board member of Eventia, a former MPI board member as well as being a founding member of The Oysters, the NTO network founded in 2002. He has been an active guest speaker at a number of MPI events around the world as well as delivering educational sessions at CONFEX, IMEX, EIBTM, PCMA and CIBTM.
Henrik Kahn, Director of VisitDenmark – UK/IE, describes Jonathan as creative, likeable and an inspiration, and sees his departure as a big loss for the office.
“We wish Jonathan well and will continue to build on the success he has helped to bring to Denmark also in the future,” says Henrik.
VisitDenmark’s Business Events Team UK/IE will continue operating with Margit Klemmensen as the Marketing Manager, mak@visitdenmark.com, and Ines Lebaek,il@visitdenmark.com, as Sales Manager of the London-based team.
