Mediterranean Music Concert with Haig Yazdjian

On Sunday, July 22 at 21:30 at the Archilochos Theatre of the Paros Park Haig Yazdjian, one of the major artists who have made their mark in the Greek world-jazz scene, accompanied by excellent musicians will perform some of his most famous compositions, mixing disparate elements of traditional music of the eastern Mediterranean. He will simultaneously play the oud, perform vocals and direct his musicians.

Born in Syria of Armenian parents Yazdjian emigrated to Greece in the early ‘80s and as a young man, the electric guitar was on his mind rather than the oud. But soon the resonance of the instrument opened new musical and expressive territory in his pursuits. In just a few years he has established himself as a leading soloist in Greece and abroad, a reputation that brought him next to prominent composers and leading singers such as , N. Xydakis, S. Yiannatou, M. Farantouri, D. Galani, E. Paspala, E. Arvanitaki and many others. From the international music scene he has collaborated with Loreenna McKennitt, the legendary ethnic group Night Ark, David Lynch, Davey Spilaine, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Djivan Gasparyan, Theodossii Spassov and Glen Velez.

His stage presence imbues dignity, kindness and nostalgia, perhaps for his homeland, and these qualities can be felt in his musical compositions. Joining him are the exceptional musicians: Nikos Sidirokastritis on drums, John Kyrimkyridis on keyboards, Peter Varthakouris on bass and John Anastasakis on guitar.
