Somerset House raises glass to new market sector as it uncorks industry wins

Somerset House, London’s iconic 18th Century venue, has seen a marked increase this year in bookings from the wine industry.

Commanding some of the capital’s most stunning Thames side views and offering an enviable mix of neo-classical architecture, Somerset House is fast becoming one of the capital’s hotspots for wine tasting events. Recent functions have been hosted by Justerini & Brooks and Spear Communications, a specialist agency dedicated to bespoke tastings and exhibitions.

Somerset House’s Navy Board Rooms and Portico Rooms have become particularly popular for discreet and intimate wine tasting events. The spaces offer complete flexibility with an abundance of natural light and neutral decoration, enabling the wine to be the focal point of the event and allowing  guests to fully appreciate the clarity of the wines. The signature spaces offer unique architecture and ambience backed by un-paralleled service levels.

Once the site of a Tudor palace, Somerset House offers an enviable  layout for wine industry events; the collection of spaces available create a wine tasting journey, with each room being used for a different tasting, enabling the client to split the regions or styles of wines. A particular favourite with the wine industry has been the Portico Rooms, a highly versatile space with views over the Thames on one side and the iconic Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court on the other.

Rachel Ingram, Events Executive Somerset House, comments: “I have really enjoyed the recent increase in events at Somerset House from the wine industry. I have a personal interest in the industry recently completing my Advanced WSET qualification in Wine & Spirits; this has enabled me to anticipate and cater for my clients’ needs when producing a wine tasting event.”
