During 11–17 August the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre played host to the IFLA World Library and Information Congress. Helsinki, the World Design Capital 2012, was bathed in sunshine for the entire week, putting on its best face for participants of the largest congress held in Finland this year.

The Congress brought together more than 4,000 participants from 119 countries around the world. Some 86 exhibitors participated in the exhibition held in connection with the Congress and more than 200 lecture sessions took place during the week.

“The participants and the IFLA were really happy with the congress. Delegates were enjoying the international and relaxed atmosphere,” says Roberta Odebrecht, Project Manager at K.I.T. Group, the congress organizer for IFLA WLIC 2012. “We especially valued the centre’s good location, and the local convention bureau offering free transport cards for the participants and a Helsinki tourist information desk in the congress lobby.”

The congress organizer was delighted with the centre’s facilities and services.

“The Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre worked perfectly for a congress of this size and the service from the personnel was excellent,” Odebrecht adds. “The location of the Holiday Inn -hotel and meeting facilities under the same roof was very important for us. We had some 15 offices there and more than 20 meeting rooms in use at the same time during the Congress.”

The IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) is an annual event organized by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), in co-operation with the WLIC National Committee and the congress organizer, K.I.T. Group.
