Six big-hitting bargains to Berlin, Barcelona and four more of the most popular places for a city-slicking short break – all with rock-bottom flights under £60.

For lovers: Paris from £36

This autumn, whisk away your beau (or your belle) to the city of love for a romantic break. Stroll the streets of St. Germain, mooch around the Marais and board a bateau to sightsee on the Seine. Attractions abound, from the Louvre to the Eiffel Tower, but you may wish to indulge your passion for shopping, satisfy your gastronomic desires, and go back next year.

For clubbers: Berlin from £43

If Saturday night down Roxy’s in the high street isn’t adventurous enough for you, step it up in serious style with a clubbing break in Berlin. While you could of course spend the entire night (and knowing Berlin, the morning after as well) out on the town, if you do need somewhere to stay, check out our hotels section with a big selection bang on your budget.

For lads: Barcelona from £45

Lads, leave your other half at home and pay homage at the temple of tiki-taka on a football weekend in Barcelona. If Barça aren’t playing, you can go for a tour of the Nou Camp, or you could just soak up the atmosphere on the cheap with a few crafty cervezas in a bar in the Catalan capital. The football is top-drawer and the nightlife’s not bad either.

For foodies: Rome from £45

Save the sightseeing: when in Rome you could live off food alone. Start your day with locals’ favourite combo of cappuccino and sugared croissant, stop in at Giolotti’s gelataria for some of the best ice cream anywhere, whatever the weather, and head over the River Tiber to Trastevere for a choice of authentic pizzerias.

For art’s sake: Amsterdam from £53

Admire some of the most famous works of art in existence at the Van Gogh Museum, from Sunflowers to his self-portraits. Marvel at masterpieces by the likes of Rembrant, Vermeer and Avercamp at the Rijksmuseum. For both attractions, get there first thing or book your tickets online in advance to jump the queues.

For a fairy-tale ending: Prague from £57

Prague as been described as an outdoor museum owing to its Old Town, which contains sights such as fairy-tale Prague Castle and Art Nouveau masterpiece Obecni Dum. Pose for a photo on Charles Bridge, wander the cobbled streets around Old Town Square, Prague’s idyllic heart, or really go tourist-tastic and take a tour in a horse-drawn carriage.
