Booth #424 features more than 36 co-exhibitors; Press conference slated for Wednesday

New York, N.Y. — September 26, 2012: Building on its success at last year’s inaugural IMEX America, the German Convention Bureau (GCB) is returning to IMEX America 2012, which runs October 9 – 11 in Las Vegas. The GCB booth, #424, is 20 percent larger than last year’s, with more than 36 co-exhibitors showcasing “Meetings made in Germany.” Additionally, the GCB will host a press conference on Wednesday, October 10, with a unique format — the “speed date.”

New York-based Laura d’Elsa, Regional Director USA & Canada, German Convention Bureau, commented on the GCB’s expanded presence at the show. “IMEX America is the stage for the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions industry here in the U.S., and the GCB had great success last year when the show debuted. As a result, the GCB and its partners and co-exhibitors are expanding our presence, so that more attendees can see the breadth of what Germany has to offer, as well as go deeper into our hallmarks of green meetings, centers of expertise, and more. We will be the largest destination booth at the show.“

Co-exhibitors at the GCB booth range from convention centers to hotels. A sampling of partners that attendees can meet with includes:

  • · KÖLNDÜSSELDORF – The Meetropolis: This joint project by the German cities of Cologne and Duesseldorf has been awarded project support from the European Union and the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia to promote meetings business to the region.
    • · Munich Convention Bureau: The city of Munich recently successfully hosted the annual congress of the European Society of Cardiology, which was attended by 27,500 cardiologists.
    • · Steigenberger Hotel Group: Steigenberger is opening two new hotels in Berlin in 2013 and was recently ranked first in the premium hotels category of German service ranking system “Service Champions” for its “Steigenberger Hotels and Reports” brand.

In talking about the press conference, d’Elsa added, “The media who attend IMEX shows have indicated they like a variety of formats to gather newsworthy information, and our press event will not disappoint. We will explore new approaches to green meetings and sustainability, the hotel room of the future, and fresh and alternative strategies for destinations to attract meetings business. This meetings business and business travel as a whole are a top priority for Germany — so important, in fact, that the German National Tourist Office has created a theme year for 2012 based on ‘Germany as a business travel destination’ and is collaborating more closely with us to promote Germany around the world.“

Speed presenters, or “data dates,” will include:

  • Michael Cordt, Head of Marketing / Sales, darmstadtium Science and Congress Center
  • Mark Spivey, Director of International Sales, Maritim Hotels
  • Mandy Pahl, Director of Sales, DüsseldorfCongress, representative for convention bureau DÜSSELDORF
  • Ricarda Lindner, Regional Manager The Americas, German National Tourist Office.

This event for media only will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Titian Ballroom, Veronese 2205, Level 2, The Venetian/Palazzo Congress Center.
