From 24th to 30th September 2016, the XXI International Congress of the International Academy of Pathology and the 28th Congress of the European Society of Pathology jointly sponsored by the European Society of Pathology (ESP) and the German Division of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP) will be held in Cologne. To represent the host country and host city of the future congress, a delegation from the German Division of the International Academy of Pathology and the Cologne Convention Bureau will travel to this year’s congress, which will take place in Cape Town from 30th September to 5th October.
In addition to advertising the host city by means of a presentation and a flyer that was especially created for the event, the delegation will take the opportunity to determine exactly what the academy will need in order to stage the congress in Cologne. The project will be organized in close cooperation with KölnKongress GmbH, and the event will be held in the Congress Centre at Koelnmesse.
Thousands of participants from all over the world are expected to attend the week-long international congress in Cologne in 2016. During the pre and post-convention tours, the participants will also visit other destinations in Germany. Congress President Professor Dietmar Schmidt is impressed by the advantages the venue has to offer. “Located right next to downtown Cologne, the Congress Centre provides participants with the ideal conditions for experiencing the city along with the congress,” he says. “The international airports in Cologne and Düsseldorf as well as the direct ICE train connection to Frankfurt Airport make the location extremely easy to reach.”
According to the latest TagungsBarometer Köln study, 42,923 events were held in Cologne in 2011, attracting a total of 3.4 million participants. The medical sector accounted for the second-largest number of business events in the city. Science is, in general, steadily becoming more important in the Cologne area, where 12 universities, colleges and other scientific institutions demonstrate the region’s high potential for organizing events. This potential is further enhanced by the fact that the University of Cologne is an elite institution that became a member of Germany’s Excellence Initiative earlier this year.
The next International Congress of the International Academy of Pathology will be held in Bangkok in 2014.
