Aalborg in northern Jutland is to host prestigious International Conference on Web Engineering in 2013.

Aalborg University has secured the influential ‘13th International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE)’ to Aalborg in 2013. The bid was won in collaboration with VisitAalborg Convention. The ICWE 2013 will be held on 8-12th July 2013 in Aalborg and is the 13th edition of the conference, after 12 successful editions in a row.

There is great prestige – and business – a stake when attracting internationally recognized and trade-specific conferences to a city. For the most part, Aalborg in North Jutland is up bidding against larger well-known metropoles such as New York, Vienna, Sydney and Munich, as was the case at this year’s ICWE conference held in Berlin. Hence, attracting conferences such as the ICWE is a big accomplishment and the result of thorough preparation and well-designed presentation materials – combined with a unique collaboration between Aalborg University and VisitAalborg Convention. Both parties are also well aware of the synergies they generate by collaborating:

‘At Aalborg University we are able to attract specialized international conferences due to our valued scientific community and the possibilities of social networking outside the conference room too. The practical and logistical matters, on the other hand, is where VisitAalborg Convention become an invaluable partner,’ says Associate Professor Peter Dolog, Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University, who is looking very much forward to next summer, where he will be heading the ICWE 2013 in the city.

Congress Manager Hanne Kristiansen from VisitAalborg Convention adds:

‘Our prime task is to assist and exchange ideas and solutions with the local stakeholders who wish to attract a given conference to Aalborg, in order for them to an hugely successful event. We must ensure that international visitors are subjected to good experiences in and outside the conference room and show that Aalborg is a progressive leisure and business tourism destination and a knowledge intensive city on par with other successful congress and conference destinations worldwide.’

Hosting the ICWE puts Aalborg University firmly on the world map within Peter Dologs research field and will help to strengthen favourable relationships between researchers on a global scale further. The ICWE aims to promote scientific and practical excellence in Web Engineering and to bring together researchers and practitioners working on all aspects regarding the engineering of Web-based software systems; state-of-the-art of technologies, methodologies, programming languages, algorithms, models, protocols, tools, and metrics and specifically looks for excellent research contributions, cutting-edge engineering practices, and empirical insights. Hence, the participating researchers and experts from across the world will meet in Aalborg to discuss and share knowledge on the development and improvement of web-based applications that most of us use every day.
