UniSpace Sunderland, the conference and events arm of the University of Sunderland, will tomorrow host a day-long event for City Hospitals Sunderland named “Infection Prevention and Control, ‘It’s a Bug’s Life’”, the first time such an event has been held externally.

The event, which will be held in the National Glass Centre, will be centred around the theme of ‘Bug-Busters’ and aims to provide training and education on control and prevention of infection in hospitals. With an expected 100 delegates attending from all levels of hospital staff, the day will feature presentations and discussions from hospital and external staff as well as exhibitions from the event sponsors.

The event will also be featuring some rather unique activities –a staff-led choir will be singing a customised rendition of ‘12 Days of Christmas’ and delegates will need to be staying alert and keeping their eyes peeled for the hospital staff, appropriately renamed ‘bug busters’, impersonating those memorable characters from a well-known film!

Sharon Olver, Commercial Services Manager for UniSpace Sunderland, commented: “We feel this is a significant event for us at UniSpace as City Hospitals Sunderland training days would normally be held on site. This is the first time that they have decided to have the event elsewhere and we are delighted that they have chosen UniSpace. The session is sure to be different with a real injection of humour, so we are all looking forward to seeing the day unfold!”
