The aquarium will be the largest of its kind in Northern Europe and has been designed by the award-winning Danish architect firm, 3XN.

Regardless of whether you arrive next year in Copenhagen by land, sea or air, it will be hard to miss the spectacular building housing Denmark’s new aquarium, The Blue Planet.At 9,000 sq metres, and with 700,000 visitors expected each year, the aquarium, built in the shape of a conch shell, will be Northern Europe’s largest and one of Denmark’s five biggest tourist attractions when it welcomes its first visitors on 22 March 2013.The Blue Planet has an unbeatable location right beside the sea, close to Copenhagen’s Airport, the Øresund Fixed Link bridge and Amager Strandpark. Danish architects 3XN, known for their environmentally friendly profile, have designed the aquarium. See photographs of the beautiful building here.

Tourists will also have the chance to experience another exciting, new museum when the new Trade and Maritime Museum (M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark), opens in Helsingør (Elsinore). The current museum will close on 30th December 2012 and reopen in its new home on 29 June 2013 beside Helsingør Harbour.

The new museum will present exhibitions about Denmark’s maritime history in a new and exciting way with, among other things, interactive elements.
