A green profile, accessibility and competitive prices – there are plenty of reasons to choose Copenhagen as host city for your next event! This year’s numbers of bid wins shows that organizers are convinced; a record number of 56 international conventions and 211 corporate events have been secured in 2012.

2012 has turned out to be a record-breaking year in terms of secured meetings and events – 56 international conventions have been confirmed for Copenhagen in the years to come. Already, 2011 was a record-breaking year for Copenhagen with 50 bid wins in total, and so there is no doubt that 2012 is ending on an all-time high.

”The increasing popularity of Copenhagen is partly due to the fact the city’s growing hotel and conference capacity in recent years, and partly because this city has all the necessary ’hardware’ needed; easy accessibility, great infrastructure, state-of-the-art venues and hotel facilities, etc. One of Copenhagen’s strong points is also its high level of scientific knowledge and research, which is key when trying to attract international scientific conventions. 2012 promises to be a great record-year for the city,” says Steen Jakobsen, Convention Director at Wonderful Copenhagen Convention Bureau.

Also the number of corporate meetings secured in 2012is record breaking. So far 211 companies have decided to hold their next event in Copenhagen. In 2011, this number was 182.

Organizers impressed with Copenhagen

Among the bid wins, more than 10 are for large conventions with more than 2,000 delegates. One of the conventions secured in 2012 is the World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics (WCPG), which is scheduled to take place in Copenhagen in 2014. Kathy Friestad, Project Manager at Parthenon Management Group and one of the organizers of WCPG, says of choosing Copenhagen:

“When the 2014 World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics program committee started searching for a destination for its 2014 annual congress, Copenhagen quickly rose to the top of the list. The program committee was searching for a unique, but user-friendly European destination. Naturally, it was imperative that the destination chosen could offer first-class meeting facilities and hotels, which would comfortably yet economically accommodate our 1,000 attendees, and we found Copenhagen’s hotels to be quite competitive and willing to work with us to achieve our goals.”

Other future events lined up in the Danish Capital also include the Annual Meeting of the European Academy of Childhood Disability 2015 and the Congress of the European Academy of Neurology 2016.

Green profile and great infrastructure

Copenhagen is particularly known for its green profile and has become a frontrunner in staging sustainable meetings. Since some 30,000 people attended the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 15) in the city back in 2009, the Danish capital has become a leader in staging sustainable meetings. To give an example, 64 % of all hotel rooms in Copenhagen are now eco-certified.

This green profile of Copenhagen, combined with an excellent infrastructure and great knowledge of the team at Wonderful Copenhagen and its partners, helped convince the organizers of WCPG to choose Copenhagen. Kathy Friestad says:

“As our attendees come from around the world, it was imperative that the chosen destination offers ample airlift from numerous points across the globe, and that once attendees arrived in the city, they would find it safe, navigable and comfortable. Copenhagen easily met these requirements. Wonderful Copenhagen’s knowledgeable – and fun! – team hosted the program committee chairs for a site visit, and we discovered a beautiful, historic, yet modern, clean and green city. Buzzing with friendly, helpful people – no language barrier whatsoever for those who only speak English – and an inviting energetic culture mixed with the old and the new, Copenhagen felt like home right away. We are very excited to host our 2014 meeting in Copenhagen, and I strongly recommend Copenhagen as an ideal European destination.”
